On 14 December 2016 Svetlana London ran a workshop for lawyers from Russia and other CIS countries as part of the series of seminars ‘Legal Practice Optimization. Effective Management Models’. The participants discussed ways of implementing management standards at legal departments. The BPP University’s MBA (Legal Services) programme was also presented to the audience.
Svetlana London was invited to host a roundtable ‘What makes the national law firm international?’ at the 10th Annual International Bar Association’s conference on Law Firm Management that took place on 2 December 2016 in Moscow.
The CIS London & Partners team was delighted to support an initiative of its long-standing client Specialized Endowment Fund ‘ISTOKI’ by sponsoring a charitable event ‘For the sake of life’ organised by St. Andrew’s foundation and the Istoki foundation in furtherance of the Russian national programme ‘Sanctity of motherhood’. The event took place on 18 November 2016 at the Ritz-Carlton Moscow hotel.
On 14-16 November 2016 the Law Society of England and Wales hosted the Russian Law Week ‘Establishing Bridges in Challenging Times’. The leading experts and lawyers from Russia and the UK discussed recent developments in the Russian law. Svetlana London gave a talk on ‘Developments and Current Trends in the Russian Court System’ within the session dedicated to the recent changes made to the Russian litigation legislation.
On 3-4 November 2016 the CIS London team participated in the XI annual Kazakhstan Forum of Corporate Lawyers that took place in Almaty.
The programme involved round table discussions, case analysis sessions and workshops held by the best lawyers and business coaches of the CIS region. In particular, Svetlana London hosted two sessions: a workshop on the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme that had recently become available for Kazakhstani lawyers and a workshop on Managing international legal projects. It was a delight to see the participants showing sincere interest in both topics.
The CIS London & Partners team has attended Minsk Legal Forum that proved to be a new platform for ‘live non-legal communication in legal circles’. Practicing lawyers and representatives of legal businesses from Europe and Asia have discussed their views on the legal profession and legal business development in various regions. Svetlana London gave a talk on CIS qualified lawyers’ career and business prospects in the UK.
Svetlana London and Kulzhan Mehrabi took part in a round table organised by the Legislation Institute of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan together with Reed Smith law firm. The leading lawyers, solicitors and barristers have discussed various challenges of as well as approaches to developing new Kazakhstani legislation on the basis of the common law principles. Svetlana presented a comparison of English and Kazakhstani law provisions regarding M&A deals.
This topic is of a particular interest to companies and the government of Kazakhstan as well as to foreign investors, especially in relation to Astana International Financial Centre being established.
Our team has participated in the first regional legal forum that took place on 7-8 October 2016 in Voronezh. The forum was organised as a networking platform for lawyers of Central and South regions of Russia.
Svetlana London took part in the ‘Legal firm management: life hacks’ panel by giving a talk on managing quality of the legal services.
